IAQ & other Toxic User Exposure (UseTox)

Making Eating & Breathing Safer

Description | Indicators | Scoring Criteria | Definitions | Issues

These attributes form the basis for the scoring of this category:

Scoring this category is based upon:

  1. Indoor air quality (IAQ certification programs and standards that test emissions of VOCs or regulate the VOC content in products.
  2. complete disclosure of all materials used in the product

All materials in the product are screened against hazard lists in the Chemical and Material Library (CML) to determine whether they have been identified as persistent and bioaccumulative toxicants (PBTs), what health effects have been associated with them and how they have been categorized on the CML level of concern scale (black for highest concern, then red, orange, yellow and green lowest concern). All chemicals identified in the CML as emitted during decomposition of the material are similarly screened for hazard.

Read the CML home page (http://p3.pharosproject.net/hazard) for further description of the protocols used to categorize materials by their direct and life cycle hazards.
